Fermat Junior prize

The FERMAT JUNIOR PRIZE for Mathematics rewards research work on a mathematical problem by one or more students in the first three years of higher education and aged 22 at most at the time of nomination. The contribution must be in French.

It is not a research work in the usual sense, but rather a contribution the content and interest of which must be accessible to the greatest number of students engaged in the mathematics studies levels mentioned above. The contribution may be based on a degree thesis made by the candidate.

The contribution may take the following form:

  • New proof or particularly short and elegant proof of a mathematical result;

  • Original or synthetic viewpoint on a set of mathematical results acquired during schooling;

  • New result that may have an interest or a direct impact in the teaching of mathematics;

  • Putting mathematical results into algorithmic form accompanied by rigorous justification.
