An article by Vadim Schechtman, winner of the Frontiers of Science prize

The International Congress of Basic Sciences will be held in Beijing from 13 to 25 July 2025. This annual event will bring together renowned experts from around the world to celebrate the basic sciences: mathematics, physics, computer science and engineering.

The Frontiers of Science Prize is awarded to recent papers that are recognised for a major advance in their field. The scientific work must meet the following three conditions:

have been published within the last ten years

be of high scientific merit and originality

have been evaluated and accepted by researchers in the field.

One of the aims of the prize is to encourage young researchers to explore the frontiers of fundamental science.

Among the 2025 winners, in the ‘Ordinary Differential Equations, Special Functions and D-Modules’ category:

Vadim Schechtman, from the Institut de mathématiques de Toulouse, for his article ‘Perverse sheaves over real hyperplane arrangements’, co-authored with Mikhail Kapranov (Kavli IPMU, University of Tokyo).
