One of the main aim of this meeting is to promote infinite-dimensional statistical problems or methods with special emphasis on:
-> Statistical modelling for functional variables
-> Functional Data Analysis
-> Operator-based Statistics
-> Background for Statistics in infinite-dimensional spaces
To this end, the STAPH group has the pleasure to inform you that :
  1. best new advances on these topics will be published in a Special Issue of "Journal of MultiVariate Analysis" (JMVA). This Special Issue is open to all researchers and not only of those coming to the meeting (see intructions just below),

  2. a collective book giving an overview about infinite-dimensional statistical problems is planned,

  3. the PROCEEDINGS entitled Functional and Operatorial Statistics are published by Springer and one copy will be given at each participant.

Special Issue in JMVA:

    All researchers and not only of those coming to the meeting can submit a paper. The proposed papers for this special issue have to be submitted online by using the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) for the Journal of Multivariate Analysis located at:

    We invite the future authors to read carefully the "Author Information". The potential authors have to respect the topics emphasized in IWFOS2008 (i.e. Statistical modelling for functional variables, Functional Data Analysis, Operator-based Statistics, Background for Statistics in infinite-dimensional spaces) and also the standard presentation of any manuscript submitted to JMVA (see in the Guide for authors the section entlited LaTeX documents and the relevant Elsevier site

    To ensure that all manuscripts are correctly identified for inclusion into the special issue, it is important that authors select "1st International Workshop on Functional and Operatorial Statistics" when they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process.

  2. DEADLINE OF SUBMISSION: End of May, 2008

  3. MAXIMUM SIZE FOR ONE PAPER: around 15 pages

    A standard reviewing procedure will select best submissions. A special attention will be paid in order to reach an high scientific level for this special issue.

  5. TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES (with the Editorial System):
    Authors having any technical difficulties with the Elsevier Editorial System, please contact the Editor Support department via e-mail at The support department can also answer e-submission system queries by telephone:

Collective book:

In order to take into account bibliographical aspect and to make the state of the art in this important field of Statistics, a collective book is in progress. The aim is to propose a general overview on both practical and theoretical aspects.
